Blossomgame leads Austin Spurs to G League Showcase win

Six Spurs scored in double figures, including two with 20-point games, as Austin topped the Windy City Bulls 119-108 at the G League Showcase in Mississauga, Ontario Wednesday night.

Rookie Jaron Blossomgame led the Spurs (15-10) with 26 points while Darrun Hilliard added 20 for Austin. Hilliard notched a double-double as he also had 12 assists in the contest.

Livio Jean-Charles scored 16 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double for Austin.

The Bulls (9-14) actually had three players score at least 20 points, but it wasn’t enough. Antonio Blakeney scored 23 while Jaylen Johnson had 22. Johnson also had 15 rebounds. Former Spur Jarell Eddie added 21 points for the Bulls.

Despite a 54-36 edge in rebounding, the Bulls were unable to make that advantage translate to points.

The game was close in the first quarter before the Spurs took a 15-point lead into halftime.

The Bulls cut the lead to three points after three quarters, but Austin reasserted itself in the fourth with an eight-point advantage in the period.

Austin held a lead of 21 points at one point and held a 21-13 edge in fast break points.

The Spurs will have one more game at the G League Showcase as they face Wisconsin on Friday in a noon matchup.

Mark Cuban admits tanking, when is NBA going to fix its bogus regular season?

Instead of fining Mark Cuban $600,000 on Wednesday for publicly admitting his team should purposely lose games, Commissioner Adam Silver should fix the fraudulent scam known as the National Bogus-ball Association’s regular season.   Somebody asked me the other day how it’s possible that the NFL’s Pro Bowl — as meaningless...

Race across the snow on skis as fast as you can. Now stop and shoot a target the size of an Oreo about 54 yards away. If you miss, you’ll ski penalty laps before you are allowed to race to the next set of targets. Most of us will never try the biathlon, a uniquely stressful sport that demands both physical intensity and emotional calm. But that...

How many U.S. soccer employees made more than USWNT coach? A lot.

The U.S. Soccer Federation this week posted its most recent tax form and, although context is important in understanding the numbers, the optics are not great. In fiscal year 2017 (April 2016-March 2017), several federation employees earned more money than Jill Ellis, head coach of the world champion women's national team. Furthermore, she was among...

Desperately seeking skiers for a budding Olympic sport

Women box at the Olympics. They pole-vault and snowboard and play rugby. But one sport in which women do not participate is the little-known winter event known as Nordic combined. The International Olympic Committee, which has for years made equality of participation by gender a goal, wants to change that. So a dictate to FIS, the global skiing federation...
