Darrun Hilliard sank two late free throws as the Austin Spurs topped the Lakeland Magic 98-96 at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park on Thursday night.
The Magic (13-6) had tied the game with 2.1 seconds on the clock before TJ Price was called for a foul with one second left.
Hilliard hit the first free throw before Magic head coach Stan Heath was hit with a technical foul. Hilliard knocked down the technical free throw to give Austin (13-8) the two-point lead. He missed the second free throw from the two-shot foul but time expired.
Five Spurs scored in double figures, led by Jaron Blossomgame who scored 18. He recorded a double-double as he also hauled in 10 rebounds to lead the Spurs.
Hilliard finished with 17 points while Nick Johnson and Olivier Hanlan each scored 14. Johnson led the Spurs with five assists.
Derrick White rounded out the double-digit scorers for Austin as he added 12 points.
Rodney Purvis led all scorers with 27 points and six Magic players overall scored in double digits, but it wasn’t enough.
Austin led 25-17 after the first quarter and built the lead up to 12 points by halftime.
The Magic outscored the Spurs by eight points in the third quarter to make the game much closer in the final period.
