Austin Spurs win in overtime in San Antonio


Darrun Hilliard hit a 3-point shot in the overtime period to lift the Austin Spurs to a 96-95 win over the Agua Caliente Clippers in San Antonio on Friday night.

The Clippers managed just two free throws in the two-minute NBA G League overtime to fall to 4-4.

Hilliard led the Spurs with 25 points as Austin improved to 8-3 on the season with its third win in a row.

The teams met at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, where the NBA’s Spurs play, and Austin improved to 3-0 all-time at the venue.

Jaron Blossomgame recorded a double-double as he scored 16 points to go with 14 rebounds.

Nick Johnson scored 18 and pulled down seven rebounds for Austin.

The Spurs shot just 38 percent overall, but made 23-of-27 free throws. Though the Clippers shot 47 percent, they managed just 19 free-throw attempts, converting on just 12 for 63 percent from the line.

Tyrone Wallace led the Clippers with 25 points and was an assist shy of a double-double. LeDontae Henton added 18.

The Clippers dominated in points in the paint, leading Austin 58-26. The Spurs converted on 17 second-chance points to help make up the difference.

Austin led by 11 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Clippers outscored the Spurs 29-18 in the final period to force overtime.
