Austin Spurs can’t complete comeback, drop third straight

Despite a strong effort late in the game, the Austin Spurs dropped their third straight game as they fell to the Iowa Wolves 110-106 on Tuesday night in Des Moines.

Darrun Hilliard scored 33 points to lead all scorers, but it wasn’t enough for the Spurs to complete the comeback win.

Austin (8-6) outscored Iowa 37-25 in the final period and pulled within two, but free throws by Elijah Millsap sealed the win for the Wolves.

Milsap led the Wolves (3-8) with 23 points. Melo Trimble scored 19 and added seven assists. Perry Jones III contributed 18 points while Anthony Brown scored 17. In all the Wolves had five players score in double digits.

Amile Jefferson notched a double-double, scoring 16 points to go with his game-high of 17 rebounds.

Nick Johnson was the second highest scorer for the Spurs, adding 15 points. Jaron Blossomgame was a rebound shy of a double-double as he scored 11 points for Austin.

Blossomgame fouled out of the contest, as did teammate Olivier Hanlan who scored 13 points.

Iowa took a 10-point advantage after the first quarter and added to it to make a 20-point lead by halftime.

The Spurs cut into that lead by six points after three quarters.

Austin shot 42 percent, not keeping pace with the Wolves who connected on half of their shots.

LSU plans to practice tackling defensive linemen to prepare for Notre Dame RB Josh Adams

Notre Dame running back Josh Adams stands at 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds. That’s rather big for a running back. So big, in fact, LSU head coach Ed Orgeron said Tuesday he plans to have his defense practice tackling defensive linemen in order to prepare for Adams’ unique size.
