FORT WORTH — Renzo Piano knew, when he was asked to design a second building for the Kimbell Art Museum, that his structure would need to complement the elegant Louis Kahn 1972 museum but would also need to keep its distance, both literally and figuratively.
“We must have measured the distance between the two buildings 50 times,” Piano said at a preview breakfast for the new Renzo Piano Pavilion, which opened Wednesday.
