After a full day’s travel made longer by our lively travel companions — a toddler and a 4-year-old — we near our final destination: Concordia Eco-Resort, tucked in the verdant hills on the southernmost tip of St. John.
We have taken three airplanes, two airport shuttles, one open-backed taxi truck and a ferry to return to the smallest and least developed of the three main United States Virgin Islands. As we navigate our rental car up St. John’s switchbacks and unending curves to reach the island’s opposite end, I silently calculate that we have been in motion for nearly 15 hours.
