As the summer movie-going season heats up, it’s a good time to take a look at apps that can enhance the theatrical experience.
A new app released in April, “Anything After” (anythingafter.com) for iOS and Android devices, solves a simple dilemma: Should you stay after the closing credits to see if there’s a bonus scene, or “stinger,” as it’s called? The 99-cent app will tell you not only whether there’s a coda but whether it’s worth seeing based on votes from users.
Another app that has a similar feature, plus lots more, is “RunPee” (runpee.com), which has been around since the early days of the Apple App Store. Also priced at 99 cents, “RunPee” includes information on bonus scenes, but its primary function is to tell you the best time to take a bathroom break during a particular movie. It even has a timer you can set at the start of the movie to trigger a vibration when those inessential viewing moments arrive. It’s available for iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices.
