Suspicious package was a jar of pickled okra

1:15 p.m. update: A jar of pickled okra was the culprit.

Police determined a suspicious package was nothing more than a bag containing a jar of the okra about two hours after police received a report of a suspicious package that triggered the response of Austin police’s bomb squad and closed 10th Street near Interstate 35, Austin police said.

The road is now open.

Earlier: A suspicious package downtown prompted a response from Austin police’s bomb squad on Monday.

The report came in at 10:57 a.m. in the 600 block of East 10th Street. It has led police to shut down 10th Street near the Interstate 35 frontage road while the bomb squad investigates.
