AUBURN, Ala. — The eighth-seeded Texas women’s golf team shot a 1-over-par 289 in Thursday’s opening round of the NCAA East Regional Championship to finish the day in fifth place. Senior Desiree Dubreuil shot a 3-under 69 to put her in a tie for seventh place at Auburn University Club.
Senior Madison Pressel finished one stroke behind Dubreuil and is among five players tied for ninth place at -2. Pressel played steady and consistent golf with 14 pars, three birdies and a lone bogey.
Seniors Katelyn Sepmoree (74) and Haley Stephens (76) are tied for 44th and 65th places, respectively, while sophomore Bertine Strauss (77) rounds out the Texas squad in a tie for 70th.
Top-seeded Alabama took command of the team standings with an 11-under 277. Three players share the first-round lead at -5.
The Longhorns will begin Friday’s second round at 11:50 a.m. alongside Tulane and Notre Dame.
