Athens, Ga. — The Texas women’s golf team finished with a strong back nine to finish Tuesday’s first round of the NCAA Championship tied for 15th place at 11-over 299. Sophomore Bertine Strauss turned in the Longhorns’ low opening round score of 1-over 73, and senior Haley Stephens finished one shot back.
Strauss is tied for 33rd place, while Stephens is 46th.
Senior Desiree Dubreuil shot a 75 and is tied for 64th place. Seniors Madison Pressel and Katelyn Sepmoree are tied for 89th place at 5-over 77.
Southern California (284) and San Jose State (284) share the first-round lead at 4-under. Duke (286) is two back, while Alabama (288) and UCLA (289) round out the top-five teams. San Jose State’s Regan De Guzman is in command of the individual leaderboard following a career-low 67.
Texas is scheduled to play alongside Arizona State and Stanford again tomorrow beginning at 10:50 a.m.
