Ashlyn Masters drilled a double down the left field line to bring in two runs in the seventh inning and give her South Carolina Gamecocks a dramatic 6-4 upset victory over Houston.
The two teams opened the NCAA softball tournament at McCombs Field on Friday afternoon. The Cougars are the second-seeded team, but they now fall to the losers bracket of the double-elimination tournament. South Carolina will play top-seeded Texas at 11 a.m. Saturday. Army will play the Cougars.
