Two weeks ago, city and Circuit of the Americas officials proudly announced that Austin had landed the X Games for a four-year run starting in 2014. The economic impact of the event, which has become something of an Olympics for action sports, has been pegged at $50 million annually for Los Angeles, its current host.
To accommodate Austin and its sizzling summers, ESPN — which created the X Games — moved the games, which are set to begin in Los Angeles this weekend, from August to spring next year.
