For the longest time Friday at the Class 5A, Region II girls soccer tournament, it appeared that Westlake’s dream season was destined to end three games short of a chance at a state championship.
Somehow the Chaparrals found a way to do something they hadn’t been forced to do at all this season — come from behind — to outlast upset-minded Garland Sachse (18-6-1). Westlake, forced to penalty kicks to decide a game for the first time this season, found the net on five of its seven attempts in the shootout while Sachse converted just four.
