A fierce and sudden thunderstorm, accompanied by hail, lightning and high winds, forced a suspension of play in the girls Class 4A competition at the UIL state golf tournament with 24 players and four teams still on the course at the Onion Creek Club.
Vandegrift’s girls squad was among the four 4A teams caught in the storm when play was stopped. Twelve individual competitors, including two-time 4A champion Lindsey McCurdy of Hays, were also forced to seek cover – some in a restroom near the 14th green – as the rain poured down.
