Marble Falls Faith wins TAPPS tennis
Marble Falls Faith’s girls tennis team won another championship last week. This time, however, their male classmates joined them on the medal stand.
Marble Falls Faith swept the Class 2A team titles at last week’s TAPPS tennis tournament. The championship was the fourth straight for the girls while the boys, who finished fourth at last year’s tournament, won their first championship since 2009.
Playing in Waco, the boys were led by Timothy Reagan Vaughn, who finished second in singles, and the doubles team of Luke Hering and Alec Gonzales, who tied for third.
The Lady Flames were led by Sarah Thomas, who won won silver in singles, and Brandi Kuhlmann, who tied for third. Nicole Johnson and Savannah Still tied for third in doubles.
The Lady Flames’ win wrapped up the high school career of Thomas, who won Class 2A singles titles in 2010 and 1012 and teamed with Still to win doubles in 2011. Johnson won doubles in 2010, was the runner-up in singles in 2011 and also won silver in last year’s doubles.
Marble Falls Faith did not win any individual championships at the state tournament but the Austin-area did not go away empty-handed. Veritas’ Ryker Heller won Class 2A boys singles.
