Last week, Georgetown senior Michael Olivares earned All-Central Texas player of the year honors for the 2013 boys soccer season. Olivares became the third Eagle to earn top honors on an All-Central Texas team during the 2012-13 school year, joining classmates Jake Hubenak (football) and Kaitlin Walla (girls basketball).
The American-Statesman selects a player of the year in eight sports: football, volleyball, boys basketball, girls basketball, boys soccer, girls soccer, baseball and softball. Our archives suggest that we began honoring soccer players during the 2002-03 school year and that this is the first time that one school has had three of its athletes win player of the year awards during a school year.
