After recovering from mid-summer back surgery, Round Rock setter Stephanie Aiple — a Texas A&M recruit — guided the Dragons to the Leander ISD Volleypalooza championship in her return. Round Rock defeated San Antonio Reagan 25-12, 18-25, 25-18 in the tournament’s title match. … Westlake finished as the runner-up at the Mizuno Texas Showdown in San Antonio, falling to San Antonio Churchill 25-23, 25-14 in the championship match. A few days later, the Chaparrals lost to Cedar Park in five sets as Timberwolves senior Hailey Roberts piled up 37 kills and her freshman teammate Lindsey Ledyard recorded 56 assists. Westlake outside hitter Corinne Grandcolas finished with 18 kills while Chaps setter Molly Smith had 28 assists. … Dripping Springs, which has won eight of its past nine matches, swept Lake Travis 25-20, 25-18, 25-17 Tuesday. Morgyn Greer had nine kills for the Tigers. … St. Stephen’s lost to San Antonio Reagan 17-25, 25-9, 25-14 at the Leander ISD Volleypalooza tournament. The Spartans won the opening set behind Brittany Adams, who recorded seven kills, but a sprained ankle later forced Adams out of the match. Minus Adams, St. Stephen’s also lost to Hendrickson 25-19, 25-21 in the tournament’s third-place match.

Esteban Villalpando of Hays posted the top time at the Lockhart Invitational last week, covering the 3,000-meter cross-country course in 8 minutes, 37 seconds. Jackson Roberts (8:51) placed second behind Villalpando in the large-schools division while Lockhart’s Sergio Moreno (10:04) was fifth. Cedar Ridge was third among large-school teams followed by Lake Travis and Anderson. In the large-schools girls race, Alexis McKennon of Lake Travis finished second in 11:35 while Ann Richards’ Gema Sanchez (11:45) took third. Hays’ Esmi Fuentes (11:50) was fourth, and Georgetown’s Isla Hampton (11:54) placed fifth. … Taylor dominated the small-school boys race at the Lockhart Invitational, as teammates Nick Dominguez (10:23), Albert Vasquez (10:34) and Abraham Lopez (10:48) finished first, second and fourth. Daniel Hodapp of St. Michael’s placed fifth in 10:48. Taylor won the boys team title ahead of Lago Vista, which was led by Matthew Donahue (10:51). Among the girls small-school entrants, Taylor’s Autumn Jensen (12:35) finished third, just ahead of St. Michael’s teammates Maria Nowlin (12:43) and Frances Hodapp (12:44). St. Michael’s placed second in the team standings.
