According to various recruiting websites, Hendrickson junior running back Samaje Perine gave a verbal commitment to Oklahoma on Wednesday.
Perine is listed at No. 43 on the American-Statesman’s compilation of the state’s Fabulous 55 best recruits from the Class of 2014. A 5-10, 224-pound running back, Perine is rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports and a four-star recruit by Rivals.com.
According to 247Sports, the American-Statesman’s recruiting partner, Perine also had scholarship offers from schools like Alabama, Baylor and TCU.
In 2011, Perine shared a backfield with current University of Texas running back Daje Johnson and still rushed for 1,535 yards.
Last season, Perine ran for 2,017 yards and 15 touchdowns on 246 carries. The District 16-5A MVP also played for a Hendrickson team that won a district championship in its first season at the Class 5A level.
Perine becomes the third member of the Austin area’s Class of 2014 to give a verbal commitment to a collegiate football program. Lake Travis running back Shaun Nixon and Round Rock offensive lineman Robert Castaneda have respectively pledged to Texas A&M and Kansas State.
