What have you learned about Ann Richards that you most admire?
Even though she served only one term as governor, she was still well-known and respected because she was a strong woman who seemed to speak her mind. She wasn’t scared of being a woman politician with a bunch of men. She did enough in her life to show young women then, now, and tomorrow that they shouldn’t fear going for their dreams and (that) they can be what they want.
What’s your favorite volleyball memory at Ann Richards?
Beating our main rival, McCallum, and finishing first in district.
Has volleyball taught you any lessons you use in everyday life?
The importance of being fit and healthy and how to work as a team with others. For instance, basketball is not my sport, but I play for ARS because it is additional sports training and helps keep me fit. And my parents tell me that they sometimes have to work with others to complete things at work, so I think that being able to work as a team will be useful throughout my life.
If you could have dinner with any four people in the history of the world, who would they be?
Jesus, Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey and Destinee Hooker.
Why Michelle Obama?
She is really into being healthy. I always see stories on TV about her teaching kids about eating right and growing their own fresh vegetables. She was on Ellen doing push-ups to show how fit she was, and she had great form.
If you had the choice of being valedictorian of your class or all-state in volleyball, which would you choose?
Valedictorian. I plan on becoming a doctor and want to be smart enough to get into a good school and be a successful doctor. If volleyball ends for me sooner than later after college, I can always join tournament teams and local leagues because I just love the game.
What do you consider to be the world’s greatest invention?
I’d say Snapchat (photo messaging). I love this app and use it as much as possible.
What are yourcollege plans?
I plan on taking the SAT and ACT soon so that I can start applying to the schools I am most interested in. My goal is to play college volleyball, but I want to be able to be accepted into the school of my choice on my academic merit, not just as a scholarship athlete.
Which of your high school courses will benefit you the most after you graduate?
BioMed. I plan on entering the medical field. I have been thinking about becoming an Ob/Gyn for a long time.
Do you have any pre-match rituals?
We do a chant to get us going before each school game. Before each club game, I talk to my mom for motivation then focus on hitting by spiking invisible balls and visualizing the kill.
