Going into the UIL Class 4A girls golf tournament, it was a given that the title would go to one of two teams, perennial champion Montgomery or Northwest Nelson, a title contender for the past three years.
After the final round Tuesday, though, the third-place showing of Cedar Park, bolstered by senior Dana Clary, was the surprise of the competition. The Timberwolves, in their first appearance at the state tournament, amassed a 36-hole, two-day total of 86-over-par on the north course at Onion Creek Club and passed Prosper and Huntsville to earn a place at the medal stand.
