Class 6A, Division I state quarterfinal

Round Rock (10-3) vs. The Woodlands (13-0)

2 p.m. Saturday (McLane Stadium, Waco)

Quarterbacks: Round Rock senior Marc Reed leads the Dragons’ offense with 2,148 yards passing, 1,277 rushing and 36 total touchdowns. The Woodlands senior Eric Schmid, the son of Highlanders head coach Mark Schmid, posted 203 yards passing and 195 rushing in a 52-31 victory over Bowie last week. For the season, he has totaled 3,607 yards of offense and 52 touchdowns. Edge: Even.

Other offense: Round Rock’s Malik Pena and Marquis Brown have combined for 1,662 yards rushing, and Dragons receiver Tyler Mahnke had seven catches for 124 yards and two touchdowns in a 49-45 win over Coppell last week. With three receivers who have at least 700 yards receiving and two running backs who have topped 700 yards rushing, The Woodlands boasts plenty of balance and versatility. Edge: The Woodlands.

Defense: USC Trojans pledge James Lynch has eight sacks from his defensive end spot for Round Rock while DBs Brandon Pflueger and Brian Bolger lead a ballhawking unit that has 28 takeaways. The Woodlands gave up 31 points and 413 yards passing to Bowie last week, but the Highlanders have allowed just 272 yards and 15.7 points per game over the course of the season. Edge: The Woodlands.

Special teams: Round Rock’s Alex Dockery has a long field goal this fall of 43 yards, and Lynch doubles as a stellar punter. Highlanders receiver Kesean Carter has returned both a kickoff and a punt for a touchdown while kicker Lockhart West also averages 40.5 yards a punt. Edge: The Woodlands.

Intangibles: Round Rock is enjoying the deepest playoff run in school history and has a 6-3 postseason record during coach Jeff Cheatham’s seven-year tenure. The Woodlands has a 2-4 playoff record against teams from the Round Rock school district, including a victory over Round Rock in the second round of the 2013 playoffs. Edge: Round Rock.
