If Texas outside hitter Haley Eckerman had anything to prove after entering the season as the presumptive player of the year, she burnished her résumé at the most important time for the third-ranked Longhorns in a 19-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-22 Big 12 Conference win against Iowa State on Saturday before a throng of 4,344 at Gregory Gym.
Eckerman has struggled at times this season and was benched for several sets during some recent matches. But she showed she is back to near the top of her game, hammering 14 kills and three service aces in leading the Longhorns both physically and emotionally.
