THE EYES OF TEXAS ARE UPON …
Three Rebels the Longhorns will be watching:
ROBERT NKEMDICHE, DE
You know about quarterback Bo Wallace, receiver Donte Moncrief and running back Jeff Scott. Who you may not know are three stud freshmen for Ole Miss expected to make a big impact this year. That group is led by Nkemdiche, the nation’s No. 1 recruit a year ago. He has seven tackles — three for loss — through two games. Texas’ offensive line struggled against BYU’s defensive front and rush linebacker Kyle Van Noy; it could be another long night with Nkemdiche coming off the edge.
LAQUON TREADWELL, WR
Moncrief is the most dangerous wideout, but it’s Treadwell (6-3, 215) who leads the team with 11 catches. He set a school freshman record for receiving yards in the opener. Moncrief will deservedly get a lot of attention on the perimeter, but Treadwell can make a big impact.
TONY CONNER, DB
Conner, a highly-rated safety coming out of high school, is Ole Miss’ nickel back who grabbed his first career interception on the very first defensive snap, in the opener. He’s one of four five-star recruits Ole Miss signed in 2013 (left tackle Laremy Tunsil is the fourth, not spotlighted here). Conner is tied for fourth on the team in tackles and his two passes defended are second-most.
