TEXAS AT BYU: FYI
What you need to know: Texas has never won in Provo. Of course, the Longhorns have only played there once before, a 47-6 setback in the 1988 season opener. This will be the fourth time the schools have played; BYU leads the series, 2-1. … The Cougars’ season opener was marred by a two-hour rain delay, then was played in sloppy, wet conditions. Texas beat up on a team that was 1-11 last year and out-depthed, particularly on defense. We’ll know more about both teams after this one. … The Longhorns are coming off a school-record game for total offensive yards. … Talking Triplets: Texas’ offensive leaders are QB David Ash (20-28-343, 4/2), RB Johnathan Gray (6-28) and WR Mike Davis (5-63-1). BYU counters with QB Taysom Hill (13-40-175, 1/1), RB Jamaal Williams (33-144) and WR Ross Apo (2-59). … Tonight’s game is on ESPN2. You’ll notice Longhorns wearing those retro helmets again with jersey numbers on top of the Longhorns logo; players decided early this week to keep them for the rest of the year.
