Whaley hurt: Defensive tackle Chris Whaley, a physical and emotional leader of the defense, suffered an injury of undetermined severity to his left knee with 10½ minutes left in the first quarter.
Whaley, the first defensive tackle in school history to score two touchdowns in a season (he had a 40-yard fumble return for a score against Kansas last week), was taken from the field in a cart. The Longhorns announced later in the first half that the senior from Madisonville would not return to the game.
