The much-maligned defense forced four Kansas State punts on the Wildcats’ first four possessions.
Alex De La Torre’s 19-yard run off a fake punt kept a drive alive and allowed Texas to take a 17-point lead in the third quarter. It was the first rush of De La Torre’s career. He plays fullback when he isn’t making plays on punts.
Tackle Kennedy Estelle was whistled for a leg whip, which negated a 31-yard screen pass from Ash to Malcolm Brown. The personal foul killed a play that would have put Texas at the K-State 24-yard line.
Quarterback Ash exited with a head injury for the second time in three games, putting his availability in question in coming weeks. The Horns have a bye week coming before an Oct. 3 game at Iowa State.
Plays of the Game
Offense: Ash hooked up with Kendall Sanders for a 63-yard touchdown in the second quarter, Texas’ first touchdown in three quarters. It was Sanders’ first career touchdown catch.
Defense: Dalton Santos’ fumble recovery in the shadow of the Texas endzone with 2:03 left sealed the victory. Santos was playing for the ejected Steve Edmond.
