A major gripe from fans and, let’s face it, media as well, in recent seasons is that Longhorns play callers did not come close to optimizing the significant speed of players like D.J. Monroe, Marquise Goodwin and Daje Johnson. Texas had all three to use last season, when Johnson was a freshman.
Monroe and Goodwin are gone, and Johnson dazzled in the season-opening win over New Mexico State, scoring two touchdowns and excelling as a slot receiver and tailback.
