KVET’s Rod Babers said Thursday that he resigned his position as sideline reporter for Longhorns football broadcasts because of a larger responsibility to listeners, paired with negative feedback he received from members of the Texas athletic department.
“They were trying to control the message, and I understand that,” Babers told the American-Statesman. “They have expectations and obligations for what a sideline reporter should say. My obligations are to the fans, (radio listeners) and to Clear Channel (Communications), which gave me this opportunity. For them to try and dilute the message … I couldn’t let that happen.”
