Staff writer Kevin Lyttle offers his weekly 68-team NCAA tournament projections. This year March Madness is coming to Austin, with the Erwin Center hosting second- and third-round games. As an added twist, Lyttle will forecast which eight teams could be headed for Austin.
On the top line: The rest of the country has finally caught up to us with Gonzaga on the No. 1 line. As for Miami vs. Duke, there’s no doubt a healthy Ryan Kelly makes a world of difference for the Blue Devils. Definitely, a FInal Four contender. But even with his 36-point outburst, Duke beat Miami by only three in Durham. The Canes beat the Devils (without Kelly) by 27 in Miami. Plus, Miami has a two-game lead in the ACC standings, making it difficult to understand why most projections have Duke seeded ahead of Miami. Perhaps they’ll meet in the ACC final to settle this score.
