Sophomore guard Andre Hollins’ 28 points led Minnesota to a 83-63 victory over UCLA at the Erwin Center Friday night in a second-round game of the NCAA South Region.
For the 11th seeded Golden Gophers, it was their first official tournament victory since 1990, and the first in three tries for coach Tubby Smith. For UCLA, the sixth seed, it marked another early disappointment, and is likely to increase the pressure on coach Ben Howland.
