They commemorated the 30th anniversary of the Longhorns’ 1983 NCAA championship Saturday, and as Cliff Gustafson stood between the mound and home plate at UFCU Disch-Falk Field holding a microphone before the game, the coach of that team succinctly described the elements of success.
“Great pitching, great defense, great hitting,” said Gustafson, flanked by his assistant coaches and 20 players, including the pitchers Roger Clemens and Calvin Schiraldi.
