Too bad he doesn’t have a position. Well, he does, but he’ll share it and back up starting center fielder Leonys Martin, the rookie in whom the club has invested a whole bunch of money. Manager Ron Washington named Gentry as his most pleasant surprise and said he will play some in center and right, more if Nelson Cruz gets suspended for his Biogenesis connection. “He’s showing me a total game,” Wash said. “He’s figuring out how good he can be.” Nolan Ryan told me Martin could play right, too. “He’s probably got the strongest arm in the outfield, him and Cruz.” … Ryan didn’t clarify his in-limbo situation with the Rangers. “I’m here,” he told me wryly.
