While I got ya, here are nine things and one crazy prediction:
1. Earl Campbell Unscripted is coming to Comcast SportsNet Houston on Monday night with an hourlong interview hosted by anchor Steve Bunin. The Longhorn Heisman Trophy winner speaks about his suicidal thoughts because of an addiction to alcohol and painkillers and the highs and lows of his career. Earl says Mean Joe Greene was the best player he ever played against and that Jim Brown once told him at one function with Emmitt Smith, Eric Dickerson and others in a discussion of all-time greats, “It’s me first, Earl second and everybody else, get in line.” … I’ll never forget one starry night at training camp in San Angelo in the summer of 1978 when a nervous Campbell and I sat on a curb outside his dormitory and he told me, “I don’t know if I’m good enough to play at this level.” I told him he was nuts because he was going to turn the league on its ear. I really went out on a limb there.
