SNYDER — There was a surprising crowd at the gas station stop in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere. Me and an 18-wheeler grinding away in idle, and some guys who piled out of a pickup and stumbled inside the building.
I was tired and lonely and just wanted to fill the tank and maybe get a burger to go. The only things working were the pumps and the restrooms. Food would have to wait for Sweetwater or Abilene, or maybe a Hershey bar at another gas station in Hermleigh, Inadale or Roscoe.
