Three Texas Longhorn juniors were among 15 players with area ties selected on the final day of the Major League Baseball amateur draft.
Texas third baseman Erich Weiss didn’t have to wait long Saturday to come off the board in rounds 11 to 40. Weiss was the 13th pick of the 11th round, chosen by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Weiss batted .299 with 24 RBIs after hitting .350 with 38 RBIs as a sophomore.
