A recent drive to San Antonio with my mother, Alicia, was uncommonly quiet.
Our visit south wasn’t a quick mother-daughter getaway meant to enjoy the city’s beautiful scenery or popular restaurants. Our mission was to get my mother to her interview with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services — a critical step in her quest to become a U.S. citizen. My job was to ensure she arrived relaxed and focused.
