The southbound lanes of Interstate 35 have reopened after being shut down for three hours because of a fatal crash early Wednesday.
Austin police Lt. Brian Gretzner said officers received reports of a single-vehicle crash in the main lanes of I-35 near Oltorf Street around 2:24 a.m.
When they arrived, they found a woman in her 20s who had been thrown from her vehicle.
Austin-Travis County EMS crews arrived shortly after and tried to save the woman’s life, but she died from her injuries at the scene, police said.
Investigators reopened all lanes of the highway shortly after 6 a.m.
The woman’s identity has not been released.
