This should have been a lovely summer for the Texas Department of Transportation.
The Legislature last spring, talking austerity despite enjoying huge revenue surpluses, nonetheless dredged up an additional $400 million for TxDOT by ending part of a “diversion” of highway money to the … highway patrol. It found another $225 million for TxDOT to repair rural roads damaged by our booming oil business and its big trucks, and a like amount for counties to use on their ravaged oil patch roads as well.
