Texas House Speaker Joe Straus simultaneously evoked cheers and jeers for sticking to his original road map for the regular legislative session that concluded Monday.
Straus didn’t stray much during the 140-day session from his priorities of revisiting K-12 education funding and the franchise tax and focusing on water infrastructure, said James Henson, a political scientist at the University of Texas at Austin and director of Texas Politics Project.
