Under pressure from Republicans, Democrats and campus officials, a student group at the University of Texas has canceled a “catch-an-illegal-immigrant” event planned for Wednesday.
Lorenzo V. Garcia, chairman of the UT chapter of the Young Conservatives of Texas, said in a statement that group members were concerned that the university might retaliate against them for violating the honor code and that a protest against the event might create safety issues. Garcia said he was shocked by obscenity-laced emails and social media comments directed at him.
