With its presiding officer on a trip to France and with most legislators absent, the Texas Senate returned to work Thursday after a week off. The session lasted just six minutes, and senators took just one vote — to adjourn for six days.
“This says everything about this special session,” state Sen. Royce West, D-Dallas, said, gesturing to the largely empty Senate Chamber, where 16 of the 31 senators attended the brief meeting, not even enough for a quorum.
