Third Court of Appeals Justice Jeff Rose announced Thursday that he will run for chief justice of the six-member court in 2014.
The Austin-based court’s chief justice, Democrat Woodie Jones, recently announced that he will not seek re-election.
Rose, a Republican, joined the appeals court in 2010, when Gov. Rick Perry appointed him to fill a vacancy. Rose previously served about one year as a Perry-appointed district judge in Travis County before he was ousted by voters, and was Attorney General Greg Abbott’s deputy first assistant and a trial lawyer.
