A state Senate committee on Tuesday passed a controversial measure opening the door to concealed handguns in college campus buildings after being warned that defeating it might lead to a less restrictive bill.
The so-called campus carry measure by state Rep. Allen Fletcher, R-Cypress, will let the presidents of state colleges and universities decide whether students and faculty and staff members who have concealed handgun licenses may carry pistols inside buildings, dorms and other areas where they are now prohibited.
