Updated: Gov. Rick Perry’s office on Friday afternoon gave the following explanation of why he vetoed Whitmire’s bill:
“The veto was made after a thorough, thoughtful and deliberative process to implement policy that will best provide young people pathways and opportunities for success, rather than focus on writing tickets to kids who may or may not be able to pay them, and pushing those who can’t pay further into the juvenile justice system without the intervention they need.”
