Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst personally interceded with police in a Dallas suburb to try to get a relative who had been arrested for shoplifting freed from jail, according to a recording of the call made public Wednesday.
A Dewhurst spokesman said the state’s No. 2 elected official was not seeking special favors when he called the Allen Police Department sergeant, only trying to determine how to post bond for Ellen Bevers, the wife of his nephew.
