Police charge 2 more men with murder in death of 19-year-old

Two more men face murder charges in connection with the death of a 19-year-old who was fatally shot and left for dead in Northeast Austin on Nov. 6.

According to arrest warrant affidavits filed Tuesday, Dequincy Lewis Fields, 27, and Maurice Andre Taylor, 33, have been charged with murder after an officer tied them to the killing of Kenneth Johnson.

Andre Pelon Jackson, 34, was arrested on Monday on the same charges, according to court records.

None of the probable cause affidavits filed against the suspects says who fired the shots the killed Johnson before he was dumped in the middle of the street in the 7400 block of Geneva Drive, but investigators have placed the suspects with the victim in the moments leading up to his death.

The affidavit filed against Jackson on Monday said investigators found images of Jackson, Johnson and Taylor getting into a black Buick at a Studio 6 motel shortly before Johnson’s death.

A new affidavit filed on Tuesday said Jackson told police he was taking Johnson to purchase drugs from Fields.

Jackson told investigators he got out of the car and went to smoke marijuana with another man while Fields, also known as “Q,” spoke with Johnson.

Court documents said Johnson had robbed “Q” about a year before, but Jackson said Johnson apologized and it seemed that all had been forgiven.

When Jackson headed back to his car, it was gone, along with Fields, Johnson and Taylor, the affidavit said.

Jackson later received an anonymous phone call that his car was back at the Studio 6 where he met up with Johnson, according to the affidavit.

When he arrived to get it, the windows on the passenger said were broken, and he saw blood inside, the affidavit said.

“He said that he then called Q to tell him that he was going to leave this car here and Q needed to come take care of it due to the damage,” the affidavit said. “Jackson said that Q responded that he would take care of it. Jackson said he never saw the Buick again and wasn’t sure what happened to it.”
