What do the Super Bowl, World Cup soccer, Academy of Country Music Awards, NBA All-Star Game, MLB All-Star Game, NHL All-Star Game, NCAA Bowl Championship Series, Breeders Cup World Championships, Formula One automobile race, and the political conventions of the Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee have in common? They are all events eligible for participation in Texas’ Major Events Trust Fund.
The Legislature has made specific findings stating that “the conduct of these events will provide invaluable public visibility throughout the nation or world for this state and the communities where the events are held; encourage and provide major economic benefits to the communities where the events are held and to the entire state; and provide opportunities for the creation of jobs by local and Texas businesses that pay a living wage.”
