Big buses are not the answer
Big buses are ugly, intrusive and present an unfriendly image of Austin. That the Transportation Department proposes to run these monstrous hinged buses downtown is awful. That is not what Austin is about. Spending millions to widen sidewalks and plant trees will make downtown beautiful and pedestrian-friendly and is the right move. The Transportation Department decision to dump those behemoths on us is just wrong. I know it takes money to add smaller buses and drivers, but saving money is not always the answer. Austin deserves better. Look at the Paris bus system for a fine example of public transportation that works.
