The frequency of cars and trucks running red lights continues to rise, and yet I see no enforcement action on the part of the police. It is only a matter of time before people start getting killed, and unfortunately, it will be the innocent driver getting T-boned by a speeding car or truck. It is time to not only step up enforcement but also raise the fines dramatically enough to serve as a deterrent. Raising the fine for running a red light to at least $700 might be enough to get folks thinking about others and adding another $250 fine for each additional axle for trucks pulling trailers might be enough to prevent people getting killed.
