Money does matter in improving public education. But as the Bastrop Independent School District has clearly demonstrated, the recipe for success also includes hard work, commitment, vision and high expectations.
The district’s success is even more impressive considering that it comes two years after the largest wildfires in Texas history devastated Bastrop and its schools. Bastrop’s inspiring example should serve as a lesson for other school districts that too often make excuses about why they aren’t having similar success.
